We took on the challenge of homemade ornaments today. Lorelai has been running a fever on and off and we’ve been doing nothing but laying around watching movies. (Though she has been acting totally fine.) She was all for getting her hands dirty for a while!
I got the base recipe here but did a few things differently.
- 2 cups of flour
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 1 1/4 cup of hot water
Mix all of the ingredients together until it’s a good consistency. Roll out onto the counter. (I used the side of a glass since I don’t have a rolling pin) You can use cookie cutters, but all of the shapes got slightly skewed when I lifted them up. I had to pretty much reshape everything.
Poke a hole in the tops where the ribbon will go. Then nuke in the microwave for 2-3.5 minutes until done (less if your dough is super thin, more if thick). You can tell when it’s done when there aren’t any wet areas – it’s pretty obvious. =)
You can tell she’s not feeling 100%. =(
But the glitter made her happy! haha. It’s all still drying now and I have to run out tonight to get some thin red ribbon to hang them on the tree. Overall, a fun craft! Messy – really, really messy – but fun. =)
Jack Frost!

We’ve done these before but never realized you could do them in the microwave – (we did them for our Bible class kids and let them dry for a week then painted them the next week)
G and I did these last week, I used a little bit of pumpkin spice, ground ginger and cinnamon and they not only smell good but they also have a neat looking texture. We’re painting them this week 🙂
I thought about adding pumpkin spice and cinnamon, but I didn’t want them to be any more tempting for Lore and Dexter – LOL. They both kept trying to eat them without the yummy smell, haha!
