Textured Snowman Craft

December 10, 2010 by Kimberly 4 Comments

Finished Textured Snowman! He’s a cutie.

So this was the craft I mentioned in my last post – the one I had planned on doing with Lorelai yesterday but didn’t. I woke up with a lot more energy today, so this one it was. Mayo actually suggested that we do a snowman because we’ve been doing too many Christmas trees, angels, and ornaments.

I’ve been wanting to try out this textured paint for a while now and got my chance today! We did the flour kind, not the shaving cream because I was planning on using other materials on top of the paint. Recipe is below!

Materials we used:

  • Paint – White Textured Paint (recipe below), Brown & Orange Tempera Paint
  • 1 Sheet of Cardstock Paper
  • 1 Sheet of Blue Scrabooking Paper (or Construction Paper)
  • Dried Black Beans
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Textured Paint Recipe: Equal parts flour, water, salt, and tempera paint. Mix together and paint… that’s it! Will dry slightly raised. (I used 1/2 cup each and it was wayyyy too much. If you’re just planning on using it for this craft, use a lot less.)

I cut out the snowman shapes first: 1 complete piece for the body instead of two circles, the hat, nose, and twig arms. I let Lorelai paint the carrot nose and arms while I mixed the puffy paint. You could use brown and orange construction paper if you would like to skip that step. (I wanted her to “do” more for this craft, so she painted.) After the body was painted, I glued everything down on to a large scrapbooking sheet. Again, you can use construction paper. She added the eyes and smile. Then I put the glue on the hat and let her add the black beans there. Buttons were last, and we were finished!

Once it dries completely, I’m going to add a little bit of tissue paper around the neck for a scarf.

I hope you get a chance to make a textured snowman! It is the perfect winter craft. =)

Oh boy… harder day than I thought. That sentence makes no sense. You know what I meant. Our snowman is almost done!
