Homemade Bubble Wand

Homemade Bubble Wand

This was a fun and quick ‘mama craft’ (only a craft mama can do) and it’s one that has been bouncing around in my head for a long time. I’m serious… loooong time. I remember wanting to do it last summer before we moved, but I couldn’t find my wire. After going through my craft boxes today, I came across the roll of wire and decided to give it a go. I think it came out very whimsical and cute. I’ll be making more for sure!

Wire Guide

Bear with me with these instructions. It’s kinda hard to describe the process since I was just winging it at the time. I create a guide above to show you kinda how it goes.

What To Use:

  • Jewelry Wire (Sorry, I have no idea what gauge my wire is, as I’ve had it forever. It’s NOT the super thin wire that you use to make necklaces. This wire is a bit thicker – but it will still go through a bead.)
  • Beads (optional)
  • Scissors/Wire Cutters/Pliers (I only used scissors)

Directions:

  1. Cut 2 long lengths of wire. You really can’t cut too much here. You can always take off any excess, but if you run out, you’ll have to cut more… it’s easier just to have a little extra.
  2. Focus on making the circular area where the bubble mixture will be blown from. I wrapped the wire around two of my fingers a couple of times (if you only do it once, it will be too flimsy). See the first drawing above. I left a bit of a tail on the one end so that I could wrap it around the circular parts to secure them together. If there isn’t enough tail to do that, just do it with some of the longer end. You can always come back with more wire later to wrap it better.
  3. If you’re going to add any beads, now the is the time to add ONE. Push it up the long end to the top and fold the wire around to secure them.
  4. Now make the handle for the bubble wand by taking the long wire and folding it up and securing it at the top (by the bead).
  5. Take your other length of wire and begin wrapping the handle to secure it. START AT THE TOP, (once it’s wrapped a couple of times, you can add any additional beading, then keep wrapping down the handle), work your way down, and then go back up to finish. Cut off any excess. I did mine very quickly and it came out whimsical (so not wrapped straight and perfect).
  6. Push down any of the sharp wire ends down into the folds of the handle. If you can’t get them in, use a pair of pliers (or even your scissors) to help flatten them out.

NOTES:

Make sure that none of the sharp wire ends are pointing into the circular bubble area – it might harm little lips and possibly pop the bubble.

I hope my instructions were clear enough. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comment area!
