After we got back from gymnastics this afternoon, Lorelai asked for a snack. I decided to go ahead and make the rainforest dirt pudding I’d put on my list! The original recipe calls for Cool Whip topping, but that was an unnecessary step in my opinion. It turned the pudding part too light and took away from the “dirt” quality. So here’s a better recipe:
What You’ll Need:
1 Pack of Instant Chocolate Pudding
What You Do:
- Mix the chocolate pudding and the milk together. (Check the box for the exact milk measurement.) Set aside for 5-10 minutes.
- While you wait for the pudding to set, put some oreo cookies into a ziplock bag. If you plan on using all of the pudding mixture (it will feed about 10 kids – probably more) then use the entire oreo pack. If you’re just feeding a few, a row will work (10 cookies or so).
- Using your rolling pin, crunch the cookies down until they resemble dirt. The more you crunch, the white cream will get mixed in and will not be noticeable.
- In a cup, put a little bit of the oreo crumbs in the bottom. Then layer some pudding 3/4ths of the way up. Add more oreo crumbs and stick a worm down into the “dirt”.
This makes big portions, but Lorelai only finished maybe a third of her cup. If you can find little plastic cups at the store, those will probably work best.
