I saw this awesome experiment over at Teach Preschool the other day and knew immediately that this is what we needed to round off our weather week. We were really busy last week and weren’t able to get anything done Thursday or Friday. So this morning (we had nothing to do) Lorelai and I went in her room and did some crafts and this experiment.
She really enjoyed seeing the blue “rain” go down through the “cloud” into the water below.
What We Used:
- Food Coloring
- 2 Glass Tumblers (or jars)
- Shaving Cream
- Dropper/Spoon (dropper will work better, but we didn’t have one)
What We Did:
I chose to only use 1 color for this as I knew it would get all over the place (and it did!). So lay down a bunch of paper towels to catch any drippings. In one cup, mix the food coloring with some water. I didn’t use exact measurements. Fill the other cup 2/3 of the way with water. Add some shaving cream (the cloud) on top. Have your child drop some of the food coloring mixture onto the cloud ~ it will go down through it and show in the water below.
