Paper Roll Cat Craft

008

We recently adopted two (rescued) cats – Bellatrix (9 months), a straight black cat with a missing eye, and Pepper (2.5ish years old) who was born without a tail. They are both soooo sweet – sweeter than my cats back home even, but don’t tell them that! I don’t think Lorelai even realized that the cats were missing a few parts. She was just SO happy to have 2 new kitties to play with. They are very tolerant of her, too. She puts on little ‘shows’ with them and has them run around and do ‘tricks’ with the laser pointer. She knows not to pick them up or rub their bellies – except Pepper, because she LOVES having her belly rubbed. Anyway, Lorelai asked to do crafts of her kitties a couple days ago. Rather than go the printable route, I pulled out two empty toilet paper rolls from our stash and decided to use them.

This craft is pretty straight-forward, but here are instructions, anyway:

What We Used:

  • Empty Toilet Paper Roll
  • Construction Paper
  • Glue
  • Googly Eyes
  • Markers/Crayons
  • Scissors

What To Do:

  • Place the toilet paper roll in one of the bottom corners of your construction paper. Mark where the top of the paper roll sits, then tightly roll the construction paper around the paper roll. Mark where it ends (allow it to overlap some).
  • Cut out that rectangle.
  • Add glue to the rectangle and then re-roll the toilet paper roll. Hold until the glue sets. (About a minute)
  • With the remaining construction paper, cut out the ears, tail, etc.
  • We drew on the nose/mouth/legs, but feel free to use construction paper.
  • Glue down the googly Eyes

The great thing about this craft is that you can change it up depending on your cat. Since one of ours is missing an eye, and the other a tail, it was easy to make those changes on the actual craft. Pepper is a calico mix with gray and brown fur, so Lore colored a piece of white construction paper to fit it. This is such an open craft that the possibilities are endless. Lorelai loved creating her kitties… I’m sure your little one will, too!
