The Lovely Owl, finished

Candice, a friend of mine, made this awesome little owl valentine to hang in her office. I wanted to ask her immediately if I could steal it to do with Lorelai, but waited a week or so before begging. LOL! So when I asked Lorelai last night what kind of craft she wanted to do today, and she said an owl, I knew it was time. Luckily Candice was fine with me using her idea. :) Thanks Candice!

This printable took forever to make. It doesn’t look like much but it was a lot of work. Totally worth it though. The end product is adorable. Unlike the “preview” below, the printable is two parts: head and body parts. The eyes are disassembled so that each layer can be painted and glued together. This gives it a little more depth and allows younger kids to do it – I mean, who can paint perfectly inside lines? There’s a little wiggle room for error this way.

Candice’s Original Owl & My Printable

Materials We Used:

  • 3 pieces of Cardstock – you’ll need heavier paper to paint on.
  • Paint, pink and red
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • 2 large googly eyes (optional – regular printed eyes are included.)
  • Glitter Glue for belly swirls (also optional)

Directions:
Print off the two printable sheets and have your child paint each part as shown above. Once dry, cut each part out and glue it down in layers. The eyes should be assembled: large circle, flower, smaller circle with black dot (or google eye).

Once all of the parts are glued down, use your glitter glue to add cute curlies on the belly.

I then glued the entire owl down onto another sheet of cardstock that had a printed quote “Owl Love You Forever” on it. Personalize it with your favorite saying, quote, or just Happy Valentines Day.

This is so easy. Lorelai loves to paint so she ate it right up. It took a bit to cut out all of the pieces but the end result is adorable, I think. Lore was so happy with it as well. She can’t wait to give it to her Daddy tonight! You know, because she (*cough*I*cough*) can’t wait until V-Day!

Hi, I was wondering if you would mind if I shared this adorable owl printable with my child’s teacher? He is in 2nd grade at St. Barnabas Catholic School and his classroom theme is “Be WHOO God wants you to be”. I know she would love your owl :-) I understand if you don’t be would love it if I had your permission.

Thanks so much for your response.
