My friend Carey sent me a picture of a butterfly craft that she and her daughter made from felt. I thought it was so cute, and since Lorelai is in love with butterflies, I put it on our craft list. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any felt on hand (all of my scraps are buried under the toys in time-out in my closet (LOL) so I cut out paper in the shape of wings and let her paint them.
It was so nice outside this morning that I decided to set up the craft out there. One downfall – it was so windy! The papers flew all over the place until I got little weights to hold them down. On the upside, it did help the crafts dry faster! 🙂
Materials We Used (for 1 butterfly):
- 1 Jumbo Popsicle Stick (smaller can work, just cut wings to size)
- 2 Small Googly Eyes
- 1 Piece of Card Stock Paper
- Paint & Paintbrushes
- Multi-colored Pom Poms (balls)
Directions: Before starting, place the popsicle stick in the middle of a piece of card stock a paper. Use a pencil or pen to draw wings on each side of the paper. Cut out the wings. Free-hand cut two small antennas (rectangles) out of the scrap paper. After everything is cut out, paint everything – popsicle stick, wings, antennas. Allow to dry, then glue the wings to the back of the popsicle stick. Glue the antennas onto the top (back or front, it doesn’t matter). Add googly eyes, then the pompoms. Our package of pom poms came with tiny little ones, which we used for the tops of the antennas.

What a great Idea. I was thinking it would be col to make 3 of them and then hang them from the ceiling with fishing wire. That would be a super cute room decoration.
Cute butterflies! Your daughter is beautiful! One of the first things I said was, “Painting in a white eyelet top?” Haha, she must be the neatest child artist ever!
