Stocking Snake Craft for Kids

Awww!! A cute snake craft that's really easy and fun for all ages!

I remember the day my oldest brother came home from camp with a snake just like this. I was so envious because it was seriously the coolest thing ever. When I chose the Rainforest Theme for this week, I knew immediately that we’d have to do a snake craft. It was a HUGE hit! Lorelai is watching an episode of Caillou and she’s had the snake wrapped around her arm the entire time. I think she likes it. =) She calls it her “Baby Boa” because boa constrictors live in the rainforest.

Materials We Used:

  • Tights, one leg cut to your preferred snake length
  • Dried beans (I used about 3 pounds total)
  • Super Glue
  • Googly Eyes (or white and black felt)
  • Red felt for the tongue (optional – we didn’t have any so I skipped)

Directions:

  1. Cut one of the legs out of your tights, keeping the length a little longer than you want your snake to be. You’re going to need some room for tying.
  2. Through the opening, pour or dump the beans until it’s full. Be sure you don’t fill it all the way to the end because you’re going to need to tie! Lorelai transferred the beans with a small measuring spoon until she got tired ~ then she held the end open and I dumped.
  3. Tie the knot. I triple knotted mine and cut off the excess fabric.
  4. Glue down the eyes. We used regular googly eyes and they worked, but I definitely see them falling off in the future. Felt will probably work best here.
  5. If you have red felt, cut out a small, forked tongue and glue that down as well.
  6. Voila, you have yourself a snake!!

Extra Fun Tip: Use light-colored tights and have your child decorate their snake with markers!
