Craft Supplies Explained
  1. Printer – A good printer is always necessary if your child loves to do printable crafts. Which mine does, hence this blog. I bought a $20 printer from Walmart last year after my $100 one nearly broke me in ink. It’s been 8 months and I haven’t replaced an ink cartridge once and it has held up perfectly to our daily printings of crafts and personal documents.
  2. Tempera Paint/ Craft Paint – Tempera is the go-to craft paint because it’s non-toxic and washable. Even the bottles that aren’t labeled ‘washable’ are kid friendly. We have been using it for years and it has never stained our clothes! (Acrylic Paint stains, so stay away from that w/ kid crafts!)
  3. Scissors – This seems obvious, but investing in a decent pair of scissors will save you a lot of headache. I have a pair of scissors from the dollar tree and it takes me 3x as long to cut through one craft than it does with my $8 Fiskars. They’re fine in a pinch, but lack of time and patience have me choosing the other pair more often.
  4. Glue – You will use glue for pretty much every craft project. We use liquid the most, but glue sticks work as well.
  5. Googly Eyes – I provide eyes that you can cut out with every printable, but Googly Eyes really give the craft and extra fun element. Buy various sizes!
  6. Cardstock Paper – This should be #1 on the craft list. Cardstock paper is thicker and heavier paper than normal printer paper. You can paint it without fear that it’s going to rip, wrinkle or leak. It’s more durable, so it withstand little fingers a lot better. Definitely do crafts with Cardstock. It costs a little more than all-purpose paper, but it goes a long way!
  7. Paper Plates – There are infinite uses of paper plates when it comes to crafting with children. Paper plate animals, masks, planets, etc. I always try to have some on hand!
  8. Pom Poms – I put this one on the list solely because my daughter adores them. Who knew little fuzzy pom poms could be so exciting? But they are! We always have some on hand to add a little extra to crafts.
  9. Paintbrushes – Another no-brainer here. Paintbrushes go hand-in-hand with paint.
  10. Markers – For times when paint isn’t desirable, or to just add accents to crafts (mouths, eyes, stripes, etc), having a marker or two around is always a good idea.
  11. Glitter – I’m not the biggest fan of glitter, so we use it sparingly, but glitter really is the cherry on top of any craft. Kids love it, enough said.
  12. Dried Beans – We use them all of the time! Black beans for eyes, split peas for green spots, etc. I have a little container full in my craft shelf at all times.
  13. Craft/Popsicle Sticks – Awesome for masks, accents, puppets, and building stuff! Always have some craft sticks on hand for your little artist.
  14. Construction Paper – Great for when painting cardstock isn’t an option. It comes in a variety of bright colors and is fairly inexpensive.
  15. Carboard / Paper Rolls – Save the little cardboard rolls after you run out of toilet paper or paper towels. There are a plethora of fun and cute crafts that incorporate those rolls!
  16. Tissue Paper – We use tissue paper a lot in crafting. Cut it into little squares (or any shape) and press it down into glue. VERY easy and just messy enough to make the craft seem extra fun for kids. =)
