{ Tissue Paper Sun Catcher }

We did this craft today at lunch time. Sorry for the craptastic photos. I’m not feeling well and Lorelai had a messy head from sleeping on wet hair last night, so no pictures. Plus she was covered in peanut butter. 🙂

Construction paper and wax paper!
Gluing down the tissue paper.
Finished product. Not perfect, but he'll love it.

Materials We Used:

  • 2 Pieces of Construction Paper (Pink)
  • 2 Pieces of Wax Paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Tissue Paper
  • Glitter Glue (optional)

Directions: Layer your two pieces of construction paper on top of each other. Draw a heart in the center, and cut out. (Start a hole by lightly folding and clipping in the center of the heart with your scissors. Don’t crease your paper!)

Get your wax paper and cut it so that it’s shorter than the construction paper on all sides. You don’t want the wax paper hanging out of the sides.

Once you got that done, the bottom piece of the wax paper to the bottom piece of construction paper. It looks funky, but it’ll be covered up by the other pieces of paper and won’t show.

Cut your tissue paper now. I did hearts for valentines day, but you could just do squares. Both are really cute. Glue down your tissue paper where the heart opening is. You don’t need to add tissue paper to the entire wax paper part because, obviously, it’s going to be covered up. The construction paper is basically just a frame.

Once all of the tissue paper is down, glue down the other sheet of wax paper. Then glue down the top piece of construction paper. Be careful to line all of the sides up. I failed that part. Lorelai was screaming because our cat was drinking out of her cup and I kind of just slapped it down to get it over with. You can see the heart openings don’t line up 100%. It’s still cute, but… 😛

We (I) also added a little message at the top with glitter glue at the end.

I think we’re going to do this one again, but with painted cardstock. There wasn’t a whole lot for Lore to do other than adding the tissue paper. I think with painted card stock, it will be a little more personalized and that much cuter.
