The Three Little Pigs is a classic story involving three pigs (obviously) and a sneaky wolf that’s trying to eat them. I’m sure you’ve heard of it. If not, here is a Youtube video of one version of the story. Anyway, this is the first craft in a new series I’m starting called Storytime Crafts. I will be making printable sets of classic stories and fairytales so that Lorelai can use them as puppets.
In case you’re wondering how I came up with this idea, I have to give complete credit to Lorelai. We were brainstorming a few months ago (as you can tell – I’m just now getting caught up!) and she got so excited about this awesome idea she had. She was describing characters on popsicle sticks and using them as puppets so that she can tell stories with them. Thinking it was a great idea, I added it to our ever-growing craft list and set it aside. I had some free time yesterday evening and I got to work.
The characters and houses are pretty simple, but enough for a basic rendition of the classic tale. There are 4 pages to the printable – the title page, characters, and two pages of houses. The brick house is slightly larger than the rest because they all have to fit in there, and remember, the piglet that built the brick house wasn’t as lazy as the others! Hehe. You only need to print pages 2, 3, and 4. I like to include a title page on the big sets.

My Deaf/HH summer school students have been having a blast using the storytime craft set to play with and retell the stories. As a teacher for the Deaf I try to find creative ways to have them practice the story and use the vocabulary numerous times. We role play, read the books, and now have your great files to play with.

I currently run a storytelling session as a volunteer at my local childrens centre – we do the 3 little pigs as part of he course but I wanted to update the craft that gets taken home after the story. we had been doing the same craft and the feedback that I have had is awesome!
