{ Growing Bean Plants }

One of Lorelai’s favorite things to do at home is play in her sand/water table. We actually switched it yesterday to just a water table because the sand was driving me crazy, but a few days before that it was just sand. She loves playing ‘Restaurant’ in the table ~ hands me a “menu”, has me order, then she goes and cooks with all of her little pots, pans, and utensils. I threw some dried pasta and beans in there and she had her plastic eggs from Easter. She also had a spray bottle to spray down the sand when it gets too dusty (another reason I switched to water). Anyway, after our craft the other day, she threw back the top on her table and gasped. “MOMMY! Something is growing in my sand table!”

I looked over and sure enough, the dried beans had sprouted! I used that as an opportunity to teach her about seeds and how they grew with a little bit of soil, water, and sunshine. (Though, we all know beans will sprout even without soil!)

So that was a fun little surprise the other day. Here are some pics:

A big one! =)
