Tree of Love Craft

The Love Tree, Finished Product

We did a variation of this craft a few months ago for fall. For a Tree of Love in celebration of the upcoming Valentines Day, what better than hearts for leaves?! 🙂

I should note that V-Day isn’t really that big of a deal to me. However, Lorelai is at the age where she understands “Valentines” and is really excited about it. Don’t ask me how she learned about it – I have NO clue. I’m guessing she saw it on a cartoon or something. This morning she was singing Happy Valentines Day to the beat of Happy Birthday. Plus, there are a bunch of cool crafts to do around this time!

Getting Started! Hearts are cut and the hand is about to be traced.
Gluing all by herself.
Adding the heart leaves… and we are done!

Materials Used:

  • 1 Piece of Cardstock
  • 1 Piece of Construction Paper (I used black)
  • Red and Pink Tissue Paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Directions:
To make the heart “leaves”, fold the tissue paper and cut out squares close to the size(s) you would like the hearts to be. I folded so that there were at least 8 pieces of tissue paper layered. Then cut out hearts! Easy peasy! You can do each one individually, but if you’re doing this craft with a child, you likely don’t have the time (or patience) to do that!

For the tree trunk, trace your child’s hand & part of the arm onto a piece of construction paper. Cut out. Glue down the arm to the white cardstock paper.

This is the fun part… Add a *ton* of glue all around the area where the heart “leaves” will go, then let your child place the hearts onto the glue! Unlike the other craft, these “leaves” look best when they aren’t scrunched up. The point is to have the hearts look like hearts, right? 🙂

So that’s it! You could decorate further with glitter or, when it’s dry, marker on the names of the people your child loves! I think we’re going to do this. She’s got a long, long list going that she has no problem reciting.
